Dictionary of Literary Biography on Florencia Pinar
Florencia Pinar probably lived most of her life during the second half of the fifteenth century. She is known for being one of a handful of female poets whose works appear in Spanish compilations of poetry, called cancioneros (songbooks), of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Although Pinar's identity has yet to be established historically, she is the most significant literary figure among these female poets. As Alan D. Deyermond has observed, the Spanish "cancioneros include the work of only half a dozen named and two anonymous" female poets, "and all but one of these are represented by only a few lines.
