During his active career Fletcher Markle was known as a "four-in-one" man, the versatile combination of actor, writer, director, and producer. Involved in both the Golden Age of Canadian radio drama and the Golden Age of American television drama. Markle worked in both countries and in three media: radio, television, and film. Markle's reputation rests on his talents as an intuitive showman and fastidious craftsman. For Markle, the writer is the crucial component of the collaborative process of modern play production, and not surprisingly, he wishes to be thought of first as a writer. With a writer's sense of symmetry in narrative, Markle began and ended his active career with his first love, radio. Markle is now in "semi-retirement," as he calls it, and is working on a number of projects, including his memoirs.
