Fina García Marruz is a dedicated Cuban poet and a literary essayist. She holds a doctorate in social sciences from the Universidad de La Habana (University of Havana) and has worked as an investigative researcher at Havana's Biblioteca Nacional de José Martí (José Martí National Library) and Centro de Estudios Martianos (Martí Studies Center). She stands out as the sole original female member of the celebrated Orígenes (Origins) group, whose magazine lasted only twelve years but whose legacy continues to influence the Cuban literary scene. In 1994 the fiftieth anniversary of the group's inception sparked a publishing renaissance of the works of all its early members, leading readers in Cuba and abroad to rediscover García Marruz.
