Evander Holyfield worked long and hard to earn the title of undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world. He fought three bruising battles with Riddick Bowe, but a heart problem forced him into retirement. After a miraculous recovery, Holyfield returned to the ring to fight the powerful former champion, Mike Tyson, winning both bouts, the second when Tyson bit off part of his ear. A symbol of courage and determination, he has established himself as a true warrior in the ring.
Holyfield was born October, 19, 1962, in Atmore, Georgia and grew up in nearby Atlanta. The youngest of eight children, he credits his mother, Annie, with much of his success--she taught him the importance of hard work and provided him with Christian values.
