Dictionary of Literary Biography on Enrique Jaramillo Levi
Enrique Jaramillo Levi is a Panamanian poet who has written in genres as diverse as drama, poetry, short fiction, and the essay. Despite his substantial poetic production, critical emphasis on his narrative works has often eclipsed the importance of his verse. In a 1993 interview published in Referencias cruzadas: Entrevistas al escritor panameño Enrique Jaramillo Levi (Cross References: Interviews with the Panamanian Writer Enrique Jaramillo Levi, 1999) he attributed this lack of interest, or appreciation, to the fact that "los criticos y lectores conocen menos mi poesía que ha sido menos difundida, menos leída, como suele ocurrir" (critics and readers are not as familiar with my poetry, it has been less circulated, less read, as sometimes happens).
