Dictionary of Literary Biography on Elio Filippo Accrocca
The well-known Italian poet and editor Elio Filippo Accrocca was born on 17 April 1923 to Livio and Caterina Pistilli Accrocca in the city of Cori, in the province of Latina--the family's place of origin. Several years later Livio Accrocca, a railway worker, moved the family from Cori to Rome so that he could find work. They settled in the popular district of San Lorenzo, one of the most important railway and commercial centers of the Lazio region. On 19 July 1943 San Lorenzo was the scene of a violent bombing attack, which destroyed the Accroccas' home. Two years after the catastrophe Elio Filippo Accrocca wrote these lines:
Ho dormito l'ultima notte
nella casa di mio padre
al quartiere proletario.
La guerra, aborto d'uomini
dementi, è passata sulla
mia casa di San Lorenzo.
(I have slept for the last
time in my father's house
in the proletarian district.
