Dictionary of Literary Biography on Elfrida Vipont Foulds
Elfrida Vipont Foulds is perhaps best known for her books for young adults, The Lark in the Morn (1948) and the Carnegie Award--winning The Lark on the Wing (1950). These two books, which chronicle Kit Haverard's development as a professional singer, were followed by The Spring of the Year (1957) and Flowering Spring (1960), which also revolve around the Haverard family. Still popular in the 1990s is her 1969 book for primary readers, The Elephant and the Bad Baby, which won the Book World's Spring Festival Book Prize in 1970.
Vipont considered her primary task to be the writing of fiction for children and young people, and she wrote more than twenty juvenile fiction books during a period of forty years. Vipont also wrote notable biographies for adolescent readers and wrote and edited several general religious books for youth.
