Dictionary of Literary Biography on Eladio Cabaero
Eladio Cabañero is a prominent member of the "Generation of the 1950s," which created a turning point in the poetry written in post-civil-war Spain. Although his personal experience and background greatly differ from those of the other members of this same generation (he is of humble, peasant origins and self-educated, and most of the others were born into the middle or upper-middle class and received university educations), his poetry does share with theirs the same major characteristics. The effects of the war are overtly reflected in his work, but political protest loses force and yields to a stronger emphasis on poetic expression. Through his skillful and artistic use of colloquial language and the manipulation of images, Cabañero is able to give deeper meanings to everyday objects and events.
