Edward Hesketh Collins Pearson was born on 20 February 1887 at Hawford in Worcestershire to Thomas Henry Collins Pearson and Constance Biggs Pearson. His father was a gentleman-farmer; his paternal grandfather, John Pearson, was in Anglican orders.
