Dictionary of Literary Biography on Edmond Hamilton

Edmond Hamilton was one of the pioneers of science fiction, publishing his first short story in 1926. He was one of the major creators of the myth of the future galactic empire in his series of stories on the Interstellar Patrol. His works were slanted for the pulp magazines and were often repetitious in theme; however, he was always innovative and helped expand the imaginative range of readers, other writers, and editors. His work in the 1930s and 1940s was mostly space opera, earning him the title of "World-Saver" Hamilton. But his works were of sufficient importance to entitle him to be the first writer of science-fiction pulp to have a collection issued in hardcover, The Horror on the Asteroid (1936).
