Tennessee Oilers' (the team will be renamed the Tennessee Titans for the 1999 season) running back Eddie George had to make a tough choice as a teenager. He could have given in to his tough surroundings growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, squandering his great ability to carry a football. Instead George listened to his mother and turned his life around. In 1995 he earned the Heisman Trophy, given annually to the best college football player in the United States, as a star running back for the Ohio State Buckeyes. In 1996 he took his talents to the National Football League (NFL), earning recognition as the league's Offensive Rookie of the Year. To this day George still credits his mother's example of hard work and discipline for his success.
