Although few collections of her work have been published, Dulce María Loynaz is one of the most widely read and critically acclaimed Latin American poets of the twentieth century. Born into a prominent Cuban family in the early part of the century, Loynaz met and influenced some of the most prominent Spanish-language poets of her age. Her work was widely praised by writers as diverse as Juan Ramón Jiménez, Federico García Lorca, and Gabriela Mistral.
