Authors and Artists for Young Adults on David Weber
David Weber has carved out a unique niche in science fiction with his military books, especially the popular "Honor Harrington" series, featuring the eponymous "intrepid" heroine, as a contributor for Publishers Weekly called her, a protagonist who follows in the "best traditions of C. S. Forester, Patrick O'Brien, and Robert Heinlein." Speaking with Stephen Hunt on Computercrowsnest.com, Weber provided a thumbnail sketch of his most popular series: "I'd say that the novels are about a six-foot-two-inch-tall female, Eurasian interstellar captain in a navy fighting a large interstellar war. They're also about personal responsibility, personal commitment, friendship, and the fact that even the 'bad guys' trapped in a fighting war are seldom really 'villains.' The series is often described as a 'space opera,' and I don't suppose I can quibble with that. But . . . it has an underlying theme and story line that knits it all together...
