Dictionary of Literary Biography on David Gerrold
David Gerrold's first sale was to television; in 1967 his "The Trouble With Tribbles" became a script for "Star Trek." Since then he has added short stories, novels, and nonfiction to his bibliography. However, his work has received little critical attention beyond a few book reviews.
Born in Los Angles as David Jerrold Friedman, he read science fiction from childhood and was active in fandom. He attended Los Angeles Valley Junior College, took cinema courses at the University of Southern California, and received a B.A. in theater arts from California State College at Northridge in 1967. Several of his works have been nominated for Hugo or Nebula awards, including "The Trouble With Tribbles" and the novels When Harlie Was One (1972), The Man Who Folded Himself (1973), and Moonstar Odyssey (1977).
