Dictionary of Literary Biography on Colin Johnson
Colin Johnson (also known as Mudrooroo) is one of the most enigmatic literary figures of Australia. A prolific and gifted author, his work has been influential in the development of a politics of Aboriginal writing. Johnson's craftsmanship and his theories of what constitutes "authentic," decolonizing Aboriginal writing are taught in schools and universities in many Australian states. The author's work is as well known overseas as it is in his own country and has been translated into many different languages--including Italian, German, Russian, and French. Recognized mainly for his novels--a self-conscious, postmodern form of political protest/ cultural revival literature--and critical analysis, Johnson's considerable oeuvre includes plays, award-winning poetry collections, and cultural studies.
