Dictionary of Literary Biography on Claudio Rodriguez
Claudio Rodríguez belongs to what has been termed the "Generation of the 1950s," also known as the "Generation of 1956-1971," the "Second Generation of Post-Civil-War Poets," and the "Rodríguez-Brines Generation." In addition to Rodríguez, this group includes Francisco Brines, Angel González, José Manuel Caballero Bonald, Jaime Gil de Biedma, Carlos Sahagún, and others who succeeded the wave of poets immediately following the Spanish Civil War and whose themes often include social commentary or even social protest. Although such concerns were of interest to many members of the Generation of the 1950s, they were equally motivated by a desire to create an aesthetic.
