Ceccardo Roccatagliata Ceccardi's poetry is a significant testimony to the need for a new expression in Italian poetry at the close of the nineteenth century. He was among the first poets of the twentieth century whose works suggest a sense of disorientation between the prevailing classical poetry of Giosuè Carducci and the more modern verses of Giovanni Pascoli and the French symbolists. Roccatagliata Ceccardi's poetry oscillates from a traditional and, at times, highly artificial verse form to a fragmentary and simple style.
