Carl Foreman's career seems broken into two sections--a division created by his break with the film industry during the blacklisting era of the early 1950s. Choosing to leave America for exile abroad, Foreman continued to further his screenwriting career but seemed to concentrate less on human conflict in his writing as his own conflicts grew. His successes did not diminish during the time he went to live and work in London. From the time he arrived in Britain in 1952 to the time he returned to the United States in 1975, his list of accomplishments increased.
