Dictionary of Literary Biography on Anders Bording
Between 1642 and 1677 Anders Bording wrote 44 pastoral, 42 congratulatory, and 37 commemorative poems; 36 hymns; 34 epigrams and improvisations; and 18 political poems, as well as the 14,700 alexandrines that filled his monthly newspaper Den berømte og velfortiente Den danske Mercurius (The Danish Mercury, 1666-1677). Popular in its day, Bording's complete oeuvre was seen by his contemporaries as the pinnacle of the Danish literary Parnassus, and more than half a century after his death he became the first Danish poet to have his complete works published in his honor as Den berømte og velfortiente M. Anders Bordings Poëtiske Skrifter (The Poetic Works of Anders Bording, 1735).
