Dictionary of Literary Biography on Alejandro Morales
Alejandro Morales is regarded as one of the leading Chicano novelists because of his skill as a writer and his understanding of culture. He has published three quality works of fiction: two in Mexico City, because at the time he could not find a United States publisher, and later one in Michigan.
Alejandro Dennis Morales was born in Montebello, California, in the barrio of Simons to which his parents, Delfino Morales Martínez and Juana Contreras Ramíriz, had emigrated from Guanajuato, Mexico. Morales grew up in East Los Angeles where he attended elementary and secondary schools. He married H. Rohde Teaze 16 December 1967. He earned a B.A. from California State University at Los Angeles and an M.A. (1973) and Ph.D. (1975) from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
