Youngblood Overview
Matt Gallagher uses his own experiences as a US Army captain to craft a gritty, visceral tale of Lieutenant Jack Porter and his experiences navigating the conflicts between Arab and American factions in the fictional town of Ashuriyah, Iraq. Both harshly grounded and delicately introspective, the war novel focuses on Jack’s investigation into the disappearance of Sergeant Elijah Rios some years before Jack’s own deployment, an undertaking which soon embroils the young lieutenant in a blood feud between mysterious factions within Ashuriyah. Gallagher’s work calls to attention themes such as bureaucracy, the unreliability of memory, morality, and loyalty.
