You Should Have Known Overview
You Should Have Known is a novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. The story follows therapist Grace Reinhart Sachs. Grace has written a book advising women that love based on physical attraction can often lead them to marry someone who is not ideal for them. She encourages women to approach selecting a spouse with an open mind and an ear for the truth. Unfortunately, Grace did not take her own advice. She was not only caught off guard when her husband (with whom she fell in love with at first sight) disappeared, but he was apparently the perpetrator of a gruesome murder. Themes in the novel include counseling, privilege, grief, and growth through her tragedy.
