Wonderstruck Overview
Brian Selznickās novel Wonderstruck tells, in parallel, the stories of Ben, a 12-year-old from Minnesota in 1977, and Rose, a young deaf girl from New Jersey in 1927. Told through mixed-media of full page illustrations and standard prose, the reader learns about the lives of Ben and Rose and how their stories eventually intertwine. Ben is on a quest to find out the identity of his father while Rose is looking for happiness in her otherwise sad existence. Wonderstruck explores themes of memory, deafness, accepting oneself, and the importance of stars.
