Women & Power: A Manifesto Overview
Revised and edited from two lectures given in 2014 and 2017, Mary Beard’s “Women & Power: A Manifesto” is a collection of two essays that confront prejudices that modern day women face. Beard employs examples from mythology and classical history to argue that these ancient stories inform our understanding of public speech and the structures of power. A combination of personal anecdotes, examples from contemporary politics, and visual aids flesh out the essays to uncover the biases that limit women’s mobility in the public sphere.
