C.C. Harrington's novel, Wildoak, is the story of a young girl named Maggie Stephens who has a debilitating stutter. When Maggie spends some time with her grandfather in the country, she encounters and befriends a semi-domesticated snow leopard named Rumpus. As Maggie struggles to find a way to save Rumpus, she learns that it is not necessary to speak perfectly to be heard. The novel's main themes are the importance of communication, one's true nature, instinct, acceptance, and the importance of conservation.
