Laura Lippman’s Wilde Lake (Kindle Edition) is the story of Louisa Frida Brant (Lu), a 46-year-old woman who has just become Howard County’s first female state’s attorney. Lu's competitive nature leads her to try a murder case against a mentally-disturbed vagrant accused of killing a woman. The story shifts between Lu's childhood and the present day murder investigation. While trying to uncover what really happened even after the case ends, Lu learns that what she thought to be true in the past might have been convenient tales. Perhaps, there are some truths that one is better off not knowing.
