White Noise (The New Yorker) Overview
Emma Cline's third person short story "White Noise," is a fictional depiction of Harvey Weinstein's life the day before he goes to trial. On the morning prior to the trial, Harvey wakes up sweating. Though he is convinced he will not be convicted, Harvey does worry that he will lose the life of luxury he has learned to love. Later that morning, when Harvey discovers Don DeLillo living next door, Harvey begins concocting a plan to produce DeLillo's novel White Noise, a feat that will certainly restore his former reputation. The short story explores themes including power, fear, and conviction.
