Whispers Through a Megaphone Overview
Whispers Through a Megaphone is a novel by Rachel Elliott. The novel tracks the life-altering moments of three main characters in their thirties, each trying to find fulfillment at a tumultuous moment in time. Miriam, suffering the effects of a mother with mental illness, has spent the past three years within the confines of her home. She only speaks in a whisper. Ralph, a psychotherapist and married father of teenage twins, finds that his marriage is hollow and he is unfulfilled. His wife Sadie has always been in love with her college roommate, and she is constantly sharing her life with the on-line world, but not with her own family. As the three characters struggle to make sense of their lives, themes of truth versus fiction, the power of voices and expressions, midlife crisis, and identity are all explored.
