What the Wind Knows Overview
In 2001, Anne Gallagher has a close relationship with her grandfather, Eoin. Upon his death, she does not hesitate to follow his instructions to spread his ashes on Lough Gill in Ireland. While Anne is on a boat fulfilling Eoin's final wishes, a fog rolls blankets the area. Suddenly, Anne finds herself in 1921 where everyone mistakes her for her grandmother, who actually died in an uprising several years earlier. Anne reunites with Eoin, who is a little boy that believes Anne to be his mother. Anne also falls in love with Thomas, the doctor who has become a father to Eoin. When a situation drives her back into Lough Gill, Anne disappears from the long ago setting and finds herself back in 2001. She is alone except for the baby she is carrying. Within a short time, Thomas arrives, having done his duty to see Eoin raised to adulthood and headed off to college. The novel focuses on time travel, Ireland's mystique, and the importance of memories.
