Warcross Overview

The first book in an upcoming trilogy, Warcross is another foray into science fiction by best-selling author Marie Lu. The novel centers on 18-year-old NYC native Emika Chen, a hacker and bounty hunter who is struggling to make rent when she accidentally glitches into the virtual reality of the Warcross Championship. Overnight, Emika's life changes as she enters the games and her idol, the Warcross creator Hideo Tanaka, recruits her to find a mysterious hacker named Zero who threatens to upend the games. The novel is primarily set in Tokyo and in the VR world of Warcross. Through Emika's first-person narration, Lu examines, among others, themes such as the dichotomy of good versus evil, whether the end justifies the means, and whether reality is all it is cracked up to be.
