Waiting by Ha Jin is the story of Lin Kong and the dilemma of his love for two women. Kong is a doctor with the Chinese Army and has become disgruntled with his wife, Shuyu, from an arraigned marriage. He falls in love with Manna Wu, a young student from the school where Kong teaches anatomy, and eventually divorces his wife and marries Manna. However, Kong soon finds himself questioning his decision as he starts to once again have romantic feelings for Shuyu.
