Veronica Overview
Veronica, a novel by Mary Gaitskill, is narrated by the main character Alison Owen, a former fashion model. The story takes place all in one day as Alison takes a walk up a hill in San Francisco. The narrative fluctuates back and forth in time based on Alison's recollections of her life. After running away from home as a teenager, Alison had eventually become a top fashion model in Paris. However, she returned home broke and jaded a few years later. Alison had lived the high life in the modeling world and had a difficult time adapting when it crashed. As she looks back, she is grateful for having had a friend named Veronica in her life at the time to help her acclimate to a new life after her return from the world of modeling.
