Unfollow Overview
In her memoir Unfollow, Megan Phelps-Roper recounts her unusual and insular childhood growing up in the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. It was not until she turned 26 and became the church's voice on Twitter that she was exposed to alternate points-of-view that gradually caused her to rethink the belief system she had espoused all her life. Soon after, Phelps-Roper left Westboro, and eventually married a man she met on the social media app; most of her family still belongs to the church and they are forbidden from speaking to her. The book considers themes of religion, community, and family, among others.
