Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption Overview
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand chronicles the true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner from California, who served as a lieutenant in World War II. Zamperini becomes a P.O.W. after his plane is shot down in the Pacific Ocean. He is treated brutally by the Japanese guards, especially one in particular, known as The Bird. After the war, Zamperini returns home but his life spirals out of control due to flashbacks and recurring nightmares of being beaten by The Bird. He attends a revival led by Billy Graham and completely turns his life around; even arranging for a meeting with The Bird, who had been captured and was standing trial for his war crimes.
