In Karen M. McManus's Two Can Keep a Secret, Ellery and her twin brother Ezra get sent to live with their grandmother in Echo Ridge, their mother's hometown. Their mother left when her twin sister went missing during senior prom and never returned. Five years ago, another girl went missing in Echo Ridge, and her body was discovered in the Halloween-themed amusement park on the edge of town. As soon as Ellery arrives, a vandal begins haunting the town, threatening the teenage girls of the town. Ellery attempts to figure out who is behind the vandalism and the murders with her brother and newfound friends, but before she can figure out the mystery, another girl goes missing. Ellery must sort through the town's web of lies and secrets before it is too late. Along the way, the novel explores the past and the present, the mystery genre, loneliness and suspicion, mothers and daughters, and illusions and realities.
