When a sassy, talking doll from another realm wakes up 13-year-old Tristan Strong in the middle of the night and steals his dead best friend's journal, he chases after her and finds himself on a perilous quest in a strange new land called Alke which is is populated with African American folktale heroes and African myths straight out the tales from Tristan's childhood.
