Transit: A Novel Overview

Rachel Cusk’s fiction novel, Transit is the follow-up to the author’s novel Outline. Transit continues where Outline ended as Faye, a divorced mother of two boys, moves to London as planned and learns from an astrologer that she is about to enter a period of transit, or upheaval and change in her life. The story takes place during a period of physical upheaval as she tries to restore the dilapidated house she has bought and emotional upheaval as she tries to adapt to her new life as a single mother in London. The motifs of change, adaptation, power and powerlessness, love, and freedom and fate are prevalent in the narrative.
