Transcendent Kingdom is a literary novel by Yaa Gyasi. the story follows a 28-year-old Ghanaian-American scientist named Gifty. Gifty is studying the neurons in the brain responsible for addiction, a subject she was drawn to because her older brother, Nana, died of a heroin overdose when Gifty was 11 years old.
