Trail of Lightning Overview

Rebecca Roanhorse’s Trail of Lightening is told through her first-person narrator, Maggie Hoskie, a 20 year old Navajo woman. Living in the now walled off Dinétah in the Sixth World, Maggie fights monsters when her clan powers are awakened by the tragic death of her grandmother. The immortal being Neizghání trains her as a warrior but later abandons her, making her feel isolated and alone until she meets Kai. Roanhorse’s novel explores the themes of violence, environmental destruction, social connection, and isolation.
