Everything you need to understand or teach Tracy Flick Can't Win by Tom Perrotta.
In Tom Perrotta's novel Tracy Flick Can't Win, all Tracy Flick needs to feel accomplished and valued is to become Principal of Green Meadow High School. After her dreams of becoming the first female President of the United States died in the face of family tragedy, Tracy is desperate to prove herself to her family, community, and herself. The more determined she becomes to assume her boss Jack Weede's position when he retires, however, the more fleeting Tracy's chances of becoming Principal appear. Over the course of the novel, a series of conflicts in Tracy's personal and vocational spheres overwhelm her with memories of the past. In an attempt to focus on the future, Tracy thinks she can escape her past by ignoring her trauma. Written from a network of narrative voices and in an unconventional narrative style, the novel explores themes including memory, identity, and ambition.
