Three O'Clock in the Morning Overview
Gianrico Carofiglio's novel, Three O'Clock in the Morning, is the story of a teenager named Antonio who has apparently been cured of epilepsy. However, a doctor wants him to stay awake for 48 hours to be sure. Over the course of two long days and nights in Marseilles, Antonio and his father talk honestly for the first time in Antonio's life. Antonio believes their relationship is forever changed. The two never again spend time together in the same way after returning home to Italy. Antonio's father dies less than a year later. The novel's main themes are the importance of communication, the inevitable passage of time, and defying convention.
