This Is Where It Ends Overview
Marieke Nijkamp's novel, This is Where it Ends, is a drama about a high school shooting in a small rural town. Although Tyler Browne does not fit in with the students at Opportunity High School, no one thinks he would actually be a danger to his fellow peers. Chaos breaks out on the first day of the spring semester when students discover they are locked in the auditorium after their principal’s beginning of the semester speech. When Tyler starts shooting, his actions reveal not only his own troubled thinking, but also brings out the best in other students as they try to save their classmates. The novel deals with themes of coming of age, friendship, family, and modern-day issues surrounding the gun control debate in America.
