The World Doesn't Require You Overview
Rion Amilcar Scott's anthology The World Doesn't Require You gives a mythical look into the fictional town of Cross River, Maryland. Cross River was established by slaves who revolted against their masters, the country's only successful slave revolt, and this spirit of rebellion lives on in all the characters. Scott's short stories span different characters, decades, and species including God's last son, David Sherman, and a robot named Jim. Scott concludes the work with Special Topic in Loneliness Studies, his novella which acts as a satire of academia and an exploration into the loneliness which nearly all the characters of the anthology. The work tackles themes of storytelling, rebellion, loneliness, sexual violence, and artistic transcendence.
