The Water Cure Overview
Sophie Mackintosh's debut literary novel The Water Cure tells the story of three sisters living on an island far from civilization. They have been told by their parents that the outside world is a dangerous place for women because the air is toxic and the men are violent, but when two men and a boy become shipwrecked on their beach, the sisters' bizarre but orderly lives are turned upside down. The novel examines themes related to female desire, love, and the dangers of patriarchal society.
