In Brendan Slocumb's novel The Violin Conspiracy, protagonist Ray McMillian's life begins to crumble when his $10 million Stradivarius violin is stolen out of his New York hotel room. Worse yet, Ray is only weeks away from competing in the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. What troubles Ray the most about losing his violin, is that it was a connection to his grandmother and her grandfather. Over the course of the novel, as Ray attempts to recover his stolen instrument, he channels his late grandmother's wisdom in order to remain courageous in the face of adversity. The novel explores themes including discrimination, identity, and connection.
