The Two-Family House Overview
The Two-Family House, by Linda Cohen Loigman, is the story of two brothers, Mort and Abe, who own a business named Box Brothers. Besides sharing the business their father left to them, the brothers' two families share one home. When the brothers' wives become pregnant at the same time, the gender of the unborn babies becomes important. Both mothers are disappointed when Rose has another daughter and Helen has another son. Since the babies are delivered by a midwife, the mothers manage to switch the babies without ever telling anyone about the change. Eventually, both families are affected by the secret. The author explores themes such as dealing with grief and the cost of keeping a secret.
