The Toughest Indian in the World Overview
The Toughest Indian in the World is a collection of short stories by Sherman Alexie. In frequently poetic language, the stories consider and dramatize different aspects of the experience of being an Indian in late 20th – early 21st Century America. Many of the stories pay particular thematic and narrative attention to the nature and experience of ceremony in Indian life. Thematic and narrative attention is also paid to inter-racial relationships and attitudes towards life on “the rez,” or on reservation.
