"The Sun Rising" is a 30-line poem by English metaphysical poet John Donne. It was originally published in 1633 in the posthumous collection of Donne's poetry (Donne died in 1631). In the poem, the speaker entreats the rising sun to leave him and his beloved alone so they can stay in bed all day. The poem features many of the poetic elements for which Donne is known, including irony, paradox, and the conflation of erotic and spiritual imagery.
