In Charles Baxter's third person novel The Sun Collective, retiree Harry Brettigan is disturbed by his wife Alma's newfound interest in a local activist grouped called the Sun Collective. Although Alma believes their missing son, Timothy, might have some involvement with the group, he cannot dispel his skepticism. Meanwhile, a young girl named Christina Lobdell becomes involved with the collective when she meets an enigmatic young man named Ludlow. Although the group purports to be a humanitarian organization, as an increasing number of violent happenings spread throughout Minneapolis, the characters begin questioning the moral integrity of the collective. The novel explores themes including change, invisibility, and longing.
