The Summons Overview
In John Grisham's novel, The Summons, Ray Atlee, the oldest son of the elderly Chancellor Reuben V. Atlee, was not surprised when he received a summons calling him and his younger brother, Forrest, home to discuss their father’s estate. After arriving, Ray was surprised to discover his father had died just hours earlier and that there was $3.1 million in cash stowed in his father’s study. Themes in the novel include sibling jealousy, the power of greed, and skewed ethics.
